Inside Line Promotions – PEORIA, Ariz. (May 28, 2019) – Joshua Shipley earned his first feature victory of the season last Saturday at Canyon Speedweek Park, which hosted a San Tan Ford ASCS Desert Sprint Car Series doubleheader.

“We started third in our heat race and finished second,” he said. “The track was getting kind of rough and when I drew the No. 8 for the feature I was kind of bummed. I was worried we wouldn’t have a chance starting that far back.”

Shipley carefully watched the cars ahead of him go around the track and took note of things that weren’t working for those cars. From there he figured out how to run the track in the best possible way.

“I took the lead around Lap 6 or Lap 7 and never looked back,” he said. “The car was great and we were really fast. No one could challenge us after I got into the top spot. It felt good to finally get a win under our belts.”

On Sunday, Shipley started fourth in his heat race and finished second. He then drew the No. 2 pill to start on the outside of the front row of the A Main.

“I took the lead early, but then I got spun,” he said. “I didn’t spin the whole way and was able to straighten myself out, but a yellow came out shortly after for someone else and they put me back to second.”

This put a halt on Shipley’s momentum for the rest of the race. He lost his brakes and couldn’t run the bottom as well, ultimately dropping to fifth place.

“We had a lot of consecutive podium finishes and I can’t be too upset that it ended with a fifth-place finish,” he said. “The points haven’t been updated yet, but it’s a tight battle between my brother, Kyle, and I for the first two spots. It’s going to be an interesting year and I’m enjoying it.”

Shipley, who has seven top fives in nine races this year, will return to action on June 16 at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz., with the San Tan Ford ASCS Desert Sprint Car Series.
